Ageless Bonds: Bridging Generations and Technology to Combat Ageism

Ageism encompasses prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping based on an individual’s age. It is frequently regarded as a social issue that requires attention. This chapter primarily centres on the following topics: societal attitudes, sentiments and behaviours regarding the ageing process; fostering the capabilities of older individuals in our communities and families; providing person-centred integrated services to the elderly; and ensuring that those who require long-term access to caregiving have it. Ageism is a widespread phenomenon requiring immediate attention regarding policy development and activism. This chapter explores how the narratives potentially impacted family, community and society to counteract ageism. The discussion also showcases the potential of intergenerational ties in combating ageism and creating a bond. The chapter emphasises the significant benefits of overcoming the ageist attitude and how nurturing an inclusive attitude can help us create an all-inclusive society. A few real-life examples of those shattering these prevalent age-related notions and reshaping inclusive narratives are discussed.
