Ageing and Technology
摘要
This chapter focuses on exploring the dynamic relationship between ageing and technology. It highlights the shift of the demographics both globally and in India, mainly focusing on how the ageing population is becoming a dominant demographic force. The chapter very subtly introduces the understanding of “digital” and “technology” in the lives of the older. A pivotal aspect of this chapter is an elaborate discussion on the motives behind the use or the adoption of technology by the older. It reveals the diverse reasons why older people choose and adopt technologies. By unravelling these motives, the chapter presents a nuanced picture of how technology can address the needs of the older. The chapter critically examines the perceptions of the older towards technology and the impact of technological interventions on the autonomy and quality of life of the older. The chapter contributes a more holistic understanding of the intricate interplay between ageing and technology.
