From Geography to Strategy: The Case of Italian Peripheries
摘要
Through stylized facts and empirical analyses, we depict many insights about the distribution of innovative activities across different dimensions, such as time, technological space, and geographical location. We collect data from many secondary sources, from official national statistical offices to patent registers. We refer to multiple levels of analysis, coupling the geographical approach to the analysis of firms’ strategic decisions. We based our main empirical analysis on regionalized and disambiguated patent data, and we refer to real-world examples to help illustrate the complexities of innovation dynamics in peripheries.
