Opportunities and Limitations of Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) in Indonesia, Study Case: Seni Tani in Bandung, Indonesia
摘要
Community-supported agriculture (CSA) is one of the agricultural approaches that support sustainability in the agriculture sector. CSA aims to improve farmers’ livelihoods and communities’ role in the food system by giving farmers stability in gaining income and enhancing community resilience from climate change events. CSA also supports overcoming climate change and reducing carbon footprints in their farming practices by implementing organic agriculture and a short supply chain. CSA practice was initially implemented in Japan in the 1950s and has been globally implemented since then, including in Indonesia. However, CSA in Indonesia is unknowledgeable due to a lack of access to information regarding CSA. Hence, this paper aims to determine the opportunities and challenges in implementing CSA in Indonesia. This study found that raising people’s awareness of healthy food and sustainable agriculture provides Seni Tani and CSA in Indonesia opportunities to develop their concept and organization. Despite offering many opportunities, challenges such as government laws and policies, consumer behavior and perception, and land accessibility to young farmers could be limited in developing Seni Tani and CSA in Indonesia. The intervention from Indonesian and local governments is required to tackle the challenges of CSA’s implementation in Indonesia. Several future strategies could be applied to advance the Seni Tani and CSA in Indonesia’s development, such as market research, creative innovation, and strengthening the management of CSA.
