A Smart Emergency Healthcare System Based on Edge Computing and 5G

Patients and older people need faster services during emergencies. However, most emergency healthcare systems need comparatively more time than required. Many lives can be saved if this system can reduce the response time. The data retrieval times are so high in a real-time emergency with Cloud-only solutions, such as stroke mitigation or fall detection, requiring swift response times from medical professionals. Edge Computing and 5G technology make it possible to handle these scenarios. This paper proposed an architecture for an emergency healthcare system by combining these two technologies with the help of IoT. Edge servers serve real-time requests to the client, and 5G is used for data transfer. The higher speed and capacity of 5G and the computation closer to the source make it possible to serve applications like emergency healthcare systems with higher reliability and lower response time. This paper evaluates the proposed architecture by developing a prototype. After considering the prototype, we can see that the server can serve more requests, and the latency and reliability of the edge server are significantly improved. We can use this architecture to develop emergency healthcare systems with real-time responses.
