The Digital Ecosystem and Major Public Health Informatics Initiatives in Resource-Limited Settings

The advent of digital technologies holds great promise for enhancing primary healthcare and transforming the way governments address emerging and re-emerging public health threats in settings with limited resources. The potential of digital health solutions to revolutionize healthcare accessibility and delivery cannot be overstated. Particularly in low- and middle-income countries with unmet healthcare needs, innovation is rapidly advancing. Policymakers are actively exploring avenues to harness this potential and ensure the long-term sustainability of digital health solutions, given the positive outcomes observed thus far. However, establishing a solid foundation for digital health in resource-limited settings remains a complex endeavor. The achievement of such progress is often a challenging task. The successful implementation of digital health hinges on a multitude of internal and external factors. This chapter will be discussing how the digital ecosystem is fundamentally affecting the sustainable adoption of digital health in resource-limited settings. In addition, the chapter discussed the lessons learnt from some major public health informatics initiatives in the area.
