A Review of Image Thinning Algorithms

In this paper, we have presented insights into various image thinning algorithms. We have provided explanations and pseudocode for chosen thinning methods. We have presented state of the art and various techniques currently used in image thinning. We have implemented selected algorithms and compared various skeletons on test image created by Zhang and on chosen test image designed to test thinning methods. Image thinning serves as a crucial biometric method, particularly essential for extracting minutiae from fingerprints and other biometric images.
