Third Pillar: Divine Impassibility and the Suffering of Christ

  • Thomas Brand

摘要

The rise of passibilist theology is analysed with a focus on the theological influence of Luther and the Idealist influences of Kant and Hegel on contemporary theology. It is contrasted with the Classical and Thomistic account of the doctrine of the Triune God. ‘Inferential theology’ is characterised as the method in which the divine nature is primarily understood through the cross of Christ in a way that tends towards passibilism.
