Responsible Management of the Fashion Supply Chain with an Eye Towards Sustainability
摘要
A supply chain is an interconnected system of facilities and distribution options that coordinates the sourcing of raw materials, their processing into various intermediate and final products, and finally, their delivery to customers. Supply chains are crucial for business success and expansion, and the organisation needs to prioritise responsible supply chain management to minimise risks of losing customers who believe in ethical sourcing and sustainability. The fashion industry relies on an organised and challenging supply chain to meet consumer requirements, involving short product life cycles and unpredictable demand. The fashion supply chain includes merchandising, sourcing, vendor selection, order placement, delivery, and distribution. The industry faces challenges due to fast fashion, environmental effects, labour practices, overstock, and waste. Sustainability is a critical issue, impacting practices from design to end-of-life concerns. The industry is shifting towards sustainability due to fast production cycles and mass consumption. Environmental, social, and economic factors are important in these shifts. Consumers are demanding circular fashion, ethical sourcing, and sustainable technology. However, balancing profit, social responsibility, and environmental concerns remains challenging. This paper addresses the key elements, problems, and sustainability aspects of the textile and fashion supply chain and the intricate relationship between sustainability and the supply chain while investigating the transformative approaches influencing the industry’s future.
