摘要

Fashion industry is not only very dynamic but it thrives on change and for this reason it could not be far behind the other industries in adopting artificial intelligence (AI). In the present chapter the researchers have tried to explore the deployment of AI in the fashion industry, focusing on the impact that AI has generated on the fashion industry in emerging economies. It also endeavors to delineate the prospects and challenges of AI usage in fashion industry from the perspectives of developing nations as these not only provide a large fashion market but are also involved in fashion and textile manufacturing for the global fashion and textile companies. The researchers opine that it is imperative to understand the role of AI in shaping the fashion, apparel and textile industry especially in emerging economies as they constitute n important part of the manufacturing, supply chain and consumption. Using case study and review, the study illustrates practical and real-world implementation of AI in fashion and textile industries in emerging economies and also highlights the associated benefits and challenges. It further offers insights into the revolutionary potential of AI in bringing transformations in the various stages of fashion production through critical analysis and discussion, while simultaneously addressing ethical and social implications specifically within the context of emerging economies. The study will have practical implications for design practitioners and fashion entrepreneurs, fashion brands and design studios. It will have theoretical implications for design students, scholars and academicians. The study also examines the threats associated with use of AI and makes recommendations for future research.
