Gasification Reactor and Processes

The gasification process partially oxidizes carbonaceous material in a limited oxygen environment. The design of a chemical reactor on an industrial scale is primarily focused on intrinsic kinetic parameters. However, to develop true kinetic parameters for gasification, performing lab experiments in a specified reactor would enable us to achieve this objective. Moreover, from the lab-scale gasification process, the rate can be defined from the intrinsic kinetic parameter derived from the experimented rate law value. As the gasification process is a thermochemical conversion of solid carbonaceous materials, the proper execution of the gasification reaction, which means a solid-gas heterogeneous reaction and an appropriate theoretical and practical understanding of the process and hydrodynamics of the reactor, is essential [1, 2]. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the gasification reactor process. It will discuss how the reactor and processes are interrelated and the significant impact of the gasification reactor on overall performance. Some of the speculated conclusions will be drawn by comparing and contrasting different reactors, guiding you through the complexities of this field.
