Transgression of the Ideal Villa Case of Kato House
摘要
The debate on geometric forms in architectural plans has developed differently in each historical period. During the Renaissance, an ideal scheme of mathematical and symmetrical proportions was created, especially the nine-square grid plan, which is recognized as an ideal composition due to its geometric perfection and is often called the Palladian schéma. This typology, as a geographical form, has influenced a great deal of architecture up to the present day. By defining an architectural space with these geometric characteristics as a “geometric space” and a space inherent with external factors as an “architectural space”, this study aims to explore the possibility of transgression within the formal order in today's diversifying world. The aim of this paper is to analyze several variant options of plan for Kato House, designed by the author (Ishimura+Neichi), in which different proportions and arrangement on the compositional order of nine-square grid, and to examine the threshold of symmetry of geometric space and the complexity of architectural space.
