Outpatient Behavioral Health Settings
摘要
Child outpatient behavioral care benefits from a broad, evidence-based foundation of therapeutic approaches. The American Psychological Association (APA), through the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, has curated a list of empirically supported therapies, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and family therapy, among others. While comprehensive, this list does not always align techniques with specific diagnoses, and mastering every approach is impractical. Clinicians often specialize based on their training and anticipated clinical settings, such as team-based practices or solo rural work. Flexibility and a broad skill set are essential due to common comorbidities and the evolving digital care landscape. Supervision is critical for building expertise, yet research shows a gap between self-perceived and actual competency in evidence-based practices (EBPs). This chapter goes over and addresses key areas commonly present in outpatient pediatric settings and best practices for intervention and professional development.
