Practical Approach to the Application of IEEE Standard 43-2013 in the Assessment of the Insulation of Rotating Machines

This study focuses on evaluating the applicability of IEEE-43-2013 standard for analyzing the insulation condition in both synchronous and asynchronous rotating electric motors. Tests including insulation resistance (IR), dielectric absorption (DAR), and polarization index (PI), were conducted. The tests and data were obtained using a Megger MiT 1025. It was determined that in some motors, despite having type F insulation, they cannot be assessed through PI and DAR; thus, it is not possible to establish the quality of insulation and dielectric condition. However, all motors could be evaluated using the insulation resistance test (IR) to determine the contamination state. On the other hand, its applicability in type B insulation motors was found to be effective.
