摘要
Ventricular assist devices (VADsVentricular assist devices (VADs)) have become a mainstay therapy for childrenChildren with end-stage heart failureHeart failure, most often as a bridge to heart transplantationHeart transplantation. Over the past decade, a number of devices have entered the market with the ability to support small infants to adult-sized adolescents. Despite excellent outcomes, providers need to be aware of the indications for VAD support, timing of implantation, intra and post-operative management, and known complications such as neurologic injury, bleeding, and infection. Though the development of these adverse events have improved over time, they still represent the major cause for significant mortality and morbidity in childrenChildren supported with a VAD. In addition, emerging concepts are the evolution from sole use as a bridge to transplant towards bridge to recovery and possibly destination therapy. The focus of this chapter will be on long-term or durablePediatric mechanical circulatory support support VADs.
