Possibility of Combined Control of Leaf Miners and Cereal Leaf Beetles in Winter Wheat Crops

Recent years have shown that in addition to the well-known and commonly occurring pests of cereals, species that previously did not pose serious problems are appearing in increasing numbers. This phenomenon is primarily due to climate change as well as cultivation technologies (e.g., crop simplification) and a large share of cereals in crop rotation. One of common cereal pests in Poland are flies of the Agromyzidae family, whose harmful stage are the larvae. Leaf miner larvae, feeding on the leaves’ parenchyma, cause characteristic damages (mines). Their widespread occurrence contributes to the reduction in the leaves’ assimilation surface. The flight of leaf miner imagines coincides with the development of leaf beetles (Oulema spp), another dangerous cereal crops pest. The aim of the research was to monitor the seasonal flight dynamics of the leaf miner flies using yellow sticky traps (Agromyzidae) and the developmental stages of the cereal leaf beetle (CLB, Oulema spp.), taking into account the developmental stages of the host plant (winter wheat).
