Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV): A Brief Overview

Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle are the center of the new green revolution that is characterizing agriculture, contributing to a digital and sustainable future. Agricultural robots improve working conditions and production efficiency, address labor shortages, taking care of the environment. This study provides a brief review of robotics applications in agriculture, exposing the key features of the employment of this technology. Through a detailed analysis, the principal tasks performed by agricultural robots have been identified. In addition, a classification of prototypes and currently available on the market agricultural robots, has been introduced. Starting from planting, current technologies cover most agricultural tasks such as monitoring, sprayers, harvesting, and transportation. The objective of this overview is to provide a summary of the state of the art in the field of agricultural robots to highlight the potential of such devices that contribute to a greater efficiency in agricultural processes. The study can be also useful to improve the design of these devices, which currently still have some limitations to their application.
