Ontologies

This chapter reflects on a spectrum of ontologies and world-picturings, focussed on pluriversal approaches to human culture and knowledge frameworks beyond Western/Cartesian epistemes and cosmologies. Following some of the holistic worldviews introduced in Chapter 2, it explores ideas about language universals and Jungian archetypes, interweaving these with perspectives emerging from First Nations philosophy and creative practice, as well as writings on ritual, mimesis and magic in the contemporary visual arts. It concludes with a reflection on the emergence of diverse ‘aesthetics-es’ in recent creative discourse and practice.
