Into the Cybersphere

This chapter investigates contemporary digital media and delivery networks as platforms for contemporary art, including as vectors for socio-political resistance, protest and memory practice. This chapter does not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of this rapidly expanding technological space, but is rather a reflection on its opportunities, constraints and possible futures. Consideration is given to the impact of networked media on artistic and museum practice, examining a number of creative projects by diverse artists worldwide. The chapter concludes with a brief reflection on digital memorialisation, including the mapping of sites of trauma and ‘unforgetting’.
