Exhibitionary Cultures
摘要
This chapter 11 explores emerging exhibitionary platforms as incubators for memorial and monumental art. The focus is on large-scale recurrent events such as biennials, triennials and the quinquennial Documenta (Germany) as sites for the presentation of experimental, ephemeral and territorially diverse artistic and curatorial projects. This leads to a reflection on the resurgence of artist-led exhibition-making, which runs counter to the ever-larger curatorial trends visible in recent biennial history. The chapter concludes with an account of two recent events in Venice, Italy and Kassell, Germany, which exemplify changing exhibitionary methodologies.
