Transition to Smart Agriculture: Case of Kasaplar Village

The developments in information and communication technologies (ICT) have brought about radical changes for society and industry. Especially the growth and globalization of digital technologies like the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and robotics towards the end of the twentieth century initiated a transformation process in social and economic life. Sustainability is another trend that should be considered which also caused an inevitable transformation process due to the requirements. Digital transformation has also affected all sectors. Agriculture sector was one of the sectors that changed considerably due to the smart technologies and sustainability. Smart agriculture practices were deemed to be important to achieve United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Turkey is one of the countries that developed smart agriculture practices. Hopefully, good examples of Smart Agriculture practices were developed in Kasaplar Village, Aydın, Turkey. This research aims to investigate the reasons behind smart agriculture practices. Furthermore, a mixed research method is used to learn the effects of smart agriculture applications in Kasaplar Village.
