Structural Modelling of Engineering Performance Under Crisis: The Case of Covid-19 Pandemic

Employees’ performance has been widely assessed especially during challenging and uncertain times like the COVID-19 pandemic, as organizational success and sustainability crucially rely on the performance of its employees. However, greater responsibilities could lead to critical consequences, therefore, this paper explores the COVID-19 pandemic effect on engineers’ performance, since the literature lacks focused metrics for engineers’ performance. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) is applied for the analysis of 100 engineers’ responses during the COVID-19 crisis. The validity and reliability of the measurement model are established according to the newly suggested assessment method. The results represented a total positive effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on engineers’ performance through Organizational Change, Work-Life Balance, Job Satisfaction and Job Stress as mediating factors. The perceived work stress result of the tested engineers hints at boosting the performance rather than diminishing, and engineers with extended experience along with being unmarried showed relatively better performance compared to others.
