Culture of Change and Digitalization

Digitalization stands out as a significant catalyst for organizational evolution. Even when companies successfully integrate new technologies and implement changes, digital transformation initiatives often face a high risk of failure. This is primarily because not all employees readily embrace all planned changes. Consequently, organizations encounter substantial challenges in achieving successful change implementation. The corporate culture plays a pivotal role in the outcome of digital technology initiatives, with many such initiatives faltering due to cultural misalignment. Organizations are reshaping their cultures to navigate this complex terrain to align with attributes like interactivity, agility, speed, and connectivity. The rapid acceleration of digital transformation in organizations, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, emphasizes the critical role of organizational culture in this process. Despite advancements in technology, the success of digital initiatives often stalls due to cultural misalignments stemming from the “culture of change”. A fundamental question emerges: How the content of “culture of change” affects digital transformation? This paper explores how the adoption of digital technologies influenced by the culture of change within organizations, highlighting the necessity of fostering a culture that supports continuous adaptation and learning. For this aim, systematic literature review is carried out through Scopus databases. We discuss the essential digital competencies that facilitate this cultural shift and address the impact of uncertainties that digital transformations frequently introduce. By analyzing how organizations can develop a resilient change culture, this study contributes to understanding the dynamics between digital transformation and change of culture in organization. Readers will find insights into managing culture of change in digital transformation effectively, which is crucial for navigating the uncertainties of digitalization.
