The birth of BioethicsBioethics is closely linked to technological progress. Contemporary Bioethics has been tasked with answering various emerging questions in order to serve as a bridge to the future. Humans have been co-evolving with technologyTechnology since prehistoric times. However, thanks to human genome editing (HGE), humans have moved beyond external interventions and toward a transformation from the inside out. Considering the current situation, bioethicists should address the possibilities, desires, and questions that emerge alongside the innovation of new technologies such as HGE. A task for contemporary BioethicsBioethics includes expanding its range of considerations to include the following: firstly, the increasing potential of HGE and how it may affect the human condition. Secondly, the increasing availability of technology combined with the do-it-yourself (DIY)Do-it-yourself (DIY) mentality. And lastly, the trend of technologies at the service of personal desire.
