Setting up International Certification to Support Industry 4.0

New professions, emerging skills, and the employability of students in the digital economy are among the key issues that must be addressed for university education to become more proactive. Companies expect our courses to be effective, combining a variety of skills as needed: management knowledge, specialization in a particular profession, soft skills (the renowned skills of the twenty-first century), leadership skills, ethics, geopolitics, e-reputation, and the ability to manage different transformations/transitions (social, digital, ecological, etc.). In this process of adaptability, the introduction of clearly identified and recognized qualifications is a real opportunity. As a complement to the essential diploma, which validates a level and potential, the certificate focuses on a specific professional skill. For companies, it serves as a guarantee of proven know-how and a genuine aptitude for the job. The TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) for English and the Microsoft certificate for IT skills have already proven their worth. Others exist, such as, C2i and the PIX. These qualifications are based on a European framework (DigComp) and are becoming the benchmark for digital skills in higher education and all socio-professional environments. In this contribution, we provide feedback on the implementation of a certification program for Industry 4.0 targeting third-year Bachelor students. Introduced in 2021, this certification marked a pioneering achievement in university education worldwide.
