Higher and Degree Apprenticeships: The Middle-Class Land Grab?

This chapter addresses the apprenticeship agenda. It explores how apprenticeships have evolved and reformed as a result of differing government policies and how higher and degree apprenticeships have been introduced. It discusses how in recent times there has been an increase in people over the age of 25 engaging in apprenticeships. This chapter details research that has mitigated the notion of apprenticeships being a ‘middle-class land-grab’ and explores recent research into how the apprenticeship levy has, over time, supported the broader technical and professional education system.
