What Is Technical Education?

This chapter explores the definition of technical education. It defines technical education and details how the notion of technical education in England came into being through discourses of vocational learning, further education and adult education. It considers how policy emerged and what this means for technical education in England—both now and in the next 20 years. The chapter also discusses the differences between technical and academic education and training including the differences in the way they are taught and assessed.
