The Principle of Repair in Circular Economy: Extending the Lifespan of Products

  • Kristina Steinbiß

摘要

The principle of repair is an essential aspect of circular economy strategies to extend the lifetime of products and materials, as it aims to make a defective product usable again. By exploring three different types of product lifetime, this microchapter deals with a definition and categorisation of the repair principle. In addition, this microchapter focuses on the main initiatives and actions currently offered by institutions and associations to make product repair attractive to consumers and other interest groups. The Patagonia case study, focusing on its “Worn Wear” programme, illustrates which highlights have been implemented by the company to increase the longevity of its products.
