The Principle of Redesign in Circular Economy: At the Heart of Circular Economy

  • Elisabeth Fröhlich

摘要

The main goal of the circular economy is to promote the redesign of entire economies, with cradle-to-cradle thinking serving as the primary driver for this new business model. Redesign is defined as the reframing of products, processes or entire systems to follow the three circular economy principles: regenerate nature by avoiding pollution and waste and optimising the use of materials to promote sustainability throughout their life cycle. A circular design process is needed to implement a redesign strategy, which encompasses all phases of a product’s life cycle to ensure that a product follows circular principles from manufacture to disposal. FREITAG’s circular truck tarps are an example of the power of redesign. The project embodies the principle of circular design by prioritising the redesign of materials to ensure their longevity and circularity from the outset.
