New and seasoned program directors who have never been involved in leading an organization during disaster will be well-served by learning about their health care system’s emergency operations plan and how their role and the residency program fit into the overall plan. Subsequently, annual review of disaster readiness with new faculty and orientation for onboarding interns will help to better prepare individuals and programs and will highlight transparency and communication as a key organizational strategy.
