The Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM) represents academic family medicine entities at academic health centers and medical schools across the US and Canada. ADFM’s role in graduate medical education relates to educating leadership to negotiate for resources to ensure excellent medical education programs and work with the ACGME on the accreditation requirements for family medicine residency programs and its subspecialties. The organization’s membership attempts to look into the future to adjust our medical education programs to meet our learners’ and our faculty members’ needs over the next 15–30 years. The focus of ADFM’s advocacy efforts is to influence funders, government, and others to create opportunities to support family medicine education and research. The ADFM also partners with other family medicine organizations to strengthen family medicine’s voice in guiding the future of healthcare in the United States.
