Teaching in Context

  • Andrew A. Szarejko

摘要

Early Career Instructors (ECIs) face many difficult choices when first preparing to teach, and the advice they receive often takes a form that suggests there is one “right” way to teach. I argue instead that ECIs should take a context-dependent approach to teaching and that mentorship for them ought to be oriented toward empowering them to make informed, responsive pedagogical choices. I detail some of the contextual factors that will inform one’s pedagogical choices, and I consider how different forms of mentorship can help prepare ECIs to make those choices.
