Following an animal trail, this chapter looks at a specifically experimental tradition of cinema, where, unlike fiction, the animal presence designates the very materiality of the film medium. It explores the common fate of analog images and animal figures through the experience of time and the motif of the corpse, and questions empirical uses of film as a rewriting of “natural” sciences.
