Cuban Americans in the Making of US Policy Toward Cuba: Immigration at the Core of Bilateral Relations

Cuban emigration to the United States has a long history. We can find a presence in cities like New York, Key West, and Tampa since the nineteenth century, which strengthened as economic, social, and political relations between the two countries did. The process was considered something natural, until with the triumph of the revolution in 1959 that issue became one of the axes of the bilateral conflict, and it is not possible to understand one thing apart from the other.
