Epilog: Cuba in the Multipolar World Order

As discussed in the introduction, this volume seeks to answer two pivotal questions: What role does Cuba play in the new multipolar world order politics, and what paradigmatic insights can be derived from the study of its international relations? Guided by these questions, we aim to summarize the main findings from the book’s contributions without merely repeating the details of Cuba’s relations with the actors discussed above. We consider that Cuba’s role in the context of the new multipolar world order can be broken down into five key factors: its geopolitical role, its historical legacy and symbolic significance, its economic obstacles, dependencies and alliances, the intermestic policy dynamics, and Cuba’s ability to adapt to global shifts. These have been addressed to different extents and from different perspectives in the articles, as related lines of evidence and arguments open the door to branching ideas and conclusions, as we will show below. Furthermore, in our subsequent analysis, we intend to incorporate additional research literature that includes other actors not covered in this volume, such as Canada.
