Industry 4.0. Upsides and Downsides. Towards Industry 5.0

The current paper intends to be a comprehensive review of literature on Industry 4.0 and to grasp the meaning some scholars associate with the concept of Industry 5.0, while presenting both the positive and the negative aspects brought about by the fourth industrial revolution. If in most examined references the positive aspects of Industry 4.0 and its good impact on society prevail, the novelty of the current review will have an important role in terms of discussing its downsides too, the points that need improving, as well as the trends identified in recent literature. Thus, the current review will aim at shedding light on the concept of Industry 4.0 from a complex perspective and analyzing how the current directions will eventually lead to its transformation into a new concept and reality, called Industry 5.0.
