This chapter summarizes the work presented in this book, starting with the development of a streamlined life cycle assessment and life cycle costing framework tailored for carbon fibre manufacturing, addressing both high costs and environmental impacts. Subsequently the effect of how manufacturing conditions impact material properties, energy use, emissions, and overall costs is discussed. Potential savings through optimized processing scenarios are identified but trade-offs in mechanical performance at higher speeds are outlined. Additionally, the evaluated alternative precursor materials are discussed, with lower-cost options like textile PAN and bio-based blends shown to offer some economic benefits, but they also present challenges in energy consumption and material quality.
