Patient Evaluation for Peritoneal Dialysis
摘要
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) serves as a home-based therapeutic modality, highlighting the importance of integrating PD into patients’ lifestyles to uphold their quality of life. A comprehensive evaluation of the patient plays a pivotal role in this process, encompassing a thorough medical and surgical history, medication review, and consideration of socio-economic factors. Conducting home visits and assessing available support services are also integral components of the overall assessment. In certain regions, the presence of robust support services facilitates the feasibility of PD. Various medical and surgical conditions are often perceived as barriers to PD, necessitating their careful management to determine PD eligibility. Despite being underutilized, PD holds potential benefits in challenging circumstances such as natural disasters, pandemics, or civil unrest.
