Evaluation of the Patient with AV Access Problems

The National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) recommends performing AV access physical examination before every AV access cannulation. PE is easy to learn and apply, with proven value in detecting AV access abnormalities. We review in this chapter the basic components of AV access physical examination, expected findings in normal examination, and findings when evaluating common AV access problems.
