摘要

A significant proportion of patients with chronic kidney disease are dialysis dependent. A few options exist for vascular access and broadly fit into three categories: central venous catheters, autologous fistulas, and prosthetic grafts. There are a myriad of benefits and risks associated with each method of access. Here we discuss types of access, complications, health care costs, and propose an algorithm for recommended access type based on patient phase of care.
