Holding Space: Creating a Compassionate and Collaborative Environment

This chapter provides a primer on creating a compassionate and collaborative environment for patient care. Drawing upon personal experiences and insights from experts, the chapter emphasizes the need for empathy and compassion in patient care. The author introduces the concept of holding space and describes how it can provide comfort and support to patients and their loved ones. The chapter also discusses the Compassionate Collaborative Care (“The Triple C”) Model and Framework, which aims to improve patient health, experience, and well-being by promoting communication, collaboration, and compassion, and how this model provides for provider well-being as well. Overall, the chapter highlights the importance of treating patients with empathy, compassion, and respect and fostering a collaborative healthcare environment that prioritizes patient-centered care.
