People of Filipino Heritage

  • Nelson Tuazon

摘要

Filipino Americans are a diverse group whose regional variations influence the spoken dialect, food preferences, and traditions as well as the other variant characteristics of culture. Aggregate data in this profile may not be accurate for some more acculturated Filipinos. Since the passage of the 1965 Immigration Act, the Philippines have become the largest source of immigrants from Asia. Economic and educational opportunities and reunification with family members in the United States are the primary motivating factors for emigration. Filipinos view educational achievement as a pathway to economic success, status, and prestige for the individual and the family.
