Farm Health: Crop Health, Animal Health, and Food Quality

  • Mark Otieno

摘要

Sustainable agriculture relies on maintaining farm health, optimizing crop and animal well-being, and ensuring food quality while minimizing environmental impact. Key strategies include enhancing soil health to prevent diseases and improve productivity, achieved through practices like crop rotations and reduced chemical inputs. Agroecology, crucial in sub-Saharan Africa, integrates ecological principles to promote sustainability and resilience. It enhances soil fertility, supports biodiversity, and optimizes livestock integration for better resource use. Agroecological practices yield nutritious, pesticide-free food and improve food security by strengthening crop health and climate resilience. However, challenges such as reliance on rainfed agriculture and limited resources remain.
