Type Four Jolts
摘要
As Mensima packed up the remnants of what used to be the largest provisions wholesale shop in the market, she sighed heavily and thought back to the events leading up to the closure of her once-thriving business. Three years ago, a strange short Chinese-looking man came to the market. He was a pitiful sight to behold. Mensima was the only trader who bothered to show kindness to the little man by giving him a sachet of water. He barely spoke any English at the time, and all he said was “work” pointing to himself. Without much thought Mensima allowed Kai to help the “boys” at the back of the shop with the packing and labeling of the merchandise. Kai was diligent with this work but after six months, one day, a group of Chinese-looking men who seemed to have lived in the country for longer came to the shop to ask for Kai and that was the last Mensima saw of him.
