Obaapa started out as a mobile money vendor at a lorry station and by dint of hard work expanded her enterprise into a small phone shop in the heart of the Yaanom market. Obaapa had a difficult childhood because her father, a peasant farmer, was husband to three wives and a lover to many more. Being the 9th of 20 known siblings, she began her working life on her father’s farm.
