Swallowing Management in Neuromuscular Disease
摘要
SLPs are responsible for managing the oral and pharyngeal phases of swallowing. Swallowing can be impaired in many NMDs. Unsafe swallowing is particularly common in motor neuron disorders, including ALS, PLS, and SBMA. Impaired swallowing impacts quality of life and the pleasure of meals and puts people at risk of malnutrition and pulmonary infections. There are several methods for assessing swallowing, leading to appropriate interventions.
