Using EEG and Eye-Tracking to Identify Student Attention in Distance Education

Distance education has undergone significant development and evolution in recent years. It has become increasingly relevant in comparison to face-to-face teaching. Many technologies have been tested and incorporated into the teaching, learning, and performance assessment. However, one issue that requires greater attention is the mapping of student attention during classes, particularly synchronous ones. This article introduces two human-computer interaction technologies, namely eye-tracking and electroencephalography (EEG), to address this problem. According to user tests, mapping the student's gaze on the computer screen and identifying neural attention patterns can be important tools for planning teachers’ pedagogical strategies.
