Dynamic Analysis of Liquid Storage Tanks: Ci Equations for Tanks with High Aspect Ratio
摘要
Liquid storage tanks play a crucial role in various industries by storing liquids such as water, oil, and chemicals. Ensuring their structural integrity under dynamic loads, particularly during seismic events, is essential. This research investigates the impact of wall thickness and aspect ratio (height-to-diameter) on the seismic response of these tanks. By adjusting these design parameters, the study evaluates their effect on the tanks’ ability to withstand seismic forces. The focus is on determining the time period coefficient for impulsive mode vibrations (Ci) for tanks with aspect ratios >2. While Ci values for aspect ratios up to 2 are provided in the IS 1893: Part 2 (2014) code, there is a need for tanks with aspect ratios above 2 for various construction purposes. To address this gap, the study proposes a Ci equation for tanks with aspect ratios between 2 and 2.5. Curve fitting is performed for tanks with aspect ratios above 2 by using Nonlinear Regression analysis using python code, resulting in a proposed equation for Ci for these tanks. This research aims to understand the dynamic behavior of liquid storage tanks during seismic events and provide insights for improved design guidelines to ensure their structural safety and resilience.
