Implementation of Lean Management and Delay Analysis in a Utility Power Distribution Project

摘要

In construction management, the Last Planner System (LPS) and the Location Based Management System (LBMS) are two lean tools that mutually complement each other effectively. These two tools are used to achieve lean objectives of minimizing waste, improving productivity, and reducing variability in construction projects. To assess the progress of the project and to achieve better project performance, the integration of LPS and LBMS is more helpful than stand-alone implementations. The suggested integration combines the technical resources of LBMS with the social process of LPS. The lean goals can be achieved by determining metrics, through flowline visualization, and by creating a more reliable schedule to reduce delays and disruptions. This integrated methodology is demonstrated in a Utility power distribution project currently in progress at Tripura, India and the performance of the project is evaluated. The progress of the project is analyzed using the metrics, and the delays in activities in each specific location are determined. Further, the reasons for these delays are defined. The insights presented in this study are poised to aid construction project managers in crafting and executing strategies, as well as devising actions to enhance performance of the project.
