摘要

To scale up to the huge requirements of infrastructure development in India, Indian construction organizations must adopt the latest technological innovations which shall improve project delivery by minimizing various systemic inefficiencies. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is one of the significant developments in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry creating gainful positive impacts. The BIM process enables all stakeholders to utilize a single model to design, construct, operate and manage an Infrastructure project/facility. Wherever successfully implemented, BIM has been able to yield several benefits to the projects. However, the BIM adoption in India is yet to reach the full spectrum and penetrate all levels of organizations. Several obstacles are hindering the BIM adoption such as lack of training, lack of skilled professionals etc. The present study intends to first identify the various benefits of BIM adoption, identify the challenges and most importantly, identify solutions that can be implemented to improve BIM adoption in India. Questionnaire surveys have been conducted and benefits, challenges and solutions have been ranked based on the Relative Importance Index (RII). The responses of 76 respondents have been analyzed statically with SPSS software. Reliability and ANOVA tests have been conducted. Qualitative Interviews have been conducted with two-case BIM projects to assess, validate and develop solutions for BIM adoption. The study intends to promote the applications of BIM and encourage practitioners to implement BIM, which shall help the Indian construction industry.
